Jewels of the Ramayana

Follow the trail of Ramayana in Sri Lanka by visiting temples and sites from the ancient epic in a land steeped in Ramayana history. Several crucial locations in the story still exist on the island enticing visitors to explore a magical adventure of courage, true love and righteousness. Visit the remains of the palace where Seetha was kept in captivity and walk in the wilderness from where Hanuman the Monkey God rescued Lord Rama and his brother Lakshmana from Ravana, the Demon King of Lankapura. Visit the plain where the final battle between Lord Rama and King Ravana was fought to free Seetha, all this while enjoying the sights and sounds of a mystical and exotic island. With over fifty-one Ramayana connected sites in Sri Lanka, it’s the ultimate spiritual experience in Asia.

Day 1

Airport /Mount Lavinia

Arrival in Sri Lanka, Clients will be welcomed by representatives & transferred to Mount Lavinia.

In the afternoon visiting the Panchamunga Anjaneyer Temple – the only Temple in the world to have a Chariot for Anjaneyer (Hanuman)

Proceed to Kelanaiya to visit the Temple in veneration of Vibishana – located in the premises of the Kelanaiya Temple constructed at the place blessed personally by the Lord Buddha during his third visit to Sri Lanka, who became the King of Lanka after the demise of King Rawana and is still considered as one of the four Guardian Deities of Sri Lanka.

Day 2

Mount Lavinia/Chilaw/Dambulla

After breakfast leave for Chilaw.

Visit the Manavari Temple – where the first lingam was installed in Sri Lanka by Lord Rama on the advice of God Shiva – still called Ramalinga Shivam.

Then visit the Munneswaram Temple – situated at the place where Lord Rama felt that the bramhaasthi dosham which was following him when he was returning to India in King Rawana’s Vimana after the victorious battle with King Rawana who was a Brahmin- was no longer there – where he prayed God Shiva who in turn adviced him to install and prey four lingams at Manavari in Chilaw, Thirukoneswarm in Trincomalee, Thiruketheswaram in Mannar and Rameshwaram in India

Proceed to Dambulla .

Day 3

Dambulla/Polonnaruwa/Kandy

After breakfast leave for the place where the “City of Lankapura” is thought to be. And witness …
  • Dunuwila, where Lord Rama had fired the brahmastharama at King Rawana, which had eventually killed him
  • Lakegala , the highest point in the area from where an eye was kept of approaching forces of Lord Rama
  • Weragantota – which was thought to be another Airports of King Rawana?
  • Gurulupotha, where the Aircraft Repair Shop was located
  • Sita Kotuwa, where the remains of Queen Mandodari’s Palace where Sita was initially imprisoned Dinner & overnight Stay at Hotel in Kandy
Day 4

Kandy/Nuwara Eliya/ Kandy

Morning visit the City of Kandy

Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic of Lord Buddha , by far the most worshipped place for Buddhists world over and leave for Nuwara Eliya.

Visit the Elephant Orphanage – Pinnawala

Day 5

Kandy/Bandawela/Ella

After breakfast leave for Bandarawela / Ella

Start the day by visiting the Sri Baktha Hanuman Temple which has Hanuman as the presiding deity where rituals are made on full moon days. This is thought to be the place where Hanuman was searching for Sita Devi

Also visit Rawanagoda , where Sita Devi stayed during her transit. The area is linked with tunnels and caves which run through to other parts of King Rawana’s Kingdom.

Start the day by visiting the Gayathri Pedam, the first and foremost Temple devoted to Gayathri Amman in Sri Lanka built enshrining a lingam brought from River Narmada built at the place believed to be where Meghanath – King Rawana’s son was blessed by God Shiva.

Thereafter visit Ghoushala – the Dairy Farm of King Rawana from where Milk was airlifted to Lankapura.
It is also thought that King Rawana’s mummy lies hidden somewhere in this region.

Then visit Ashok Vatika – the main place where Sita was kept in hiding and the Sita Amman Temple – which is dedicated to all major characters Sita , Rama , Lakshman and Hanuman where the differently sized foot marks prove the immense powers of Hanuman passing through Sita Eliya where she was allowed to live a free life.

Proceed to visit Divurumpola Temple – the place where Seetha performed the Agni Pareeksha to prove her innocence

Day 6

Bandarawela/Colombo


After breakfast, en-route to Colombo, enjoy the beauty of the Rawana Ella Water Falls – refresh and hike up hill to visit the Rawana Cave -where Sita was kept in hiding.

Proceed to Colombo
